BREWING OF BEER.

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 12. It is reported that regulations will soon be issued giving the Minister of Customs power to order breweries to brew beer to 1036 specific gravity The Minister, Mr Nordmeyer, questioned to-night about this reported decision of the War Cabinet, declined to comment.

"Unquestionably," Mr Nordmoyor replied when asked whether the reduction in alcohol content had caused an, improvement in the community's sobriety. Mr Nordmeyer said police reports indicated a general improvement. It had been said that that was due to less beer being consumed, but. ho believed the improvement was due to the lower alcohol content. Figures were not yet available on which any announcement could be sustained that a smaller quantity of beer was being drunk.
