TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD
There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Townswomen's Guild, when Mrs W. S. Woodroofe (president) thanked all who had voluntarily helped at the Showgrounds canteen during the month. A letter of thanks for a message of sympathy in their recent bereavement was received from Mr J. A. Nash and family, and acknowledgments of sympathetic expressions were received from Miss G. Fuller (whose mother is ill) and Mrs W E. Field (in respect of her accident). A competition for thrift and novelty articles, which will later be sold by the guild at the patriotic shop was held, the winners being Mrs Cooksley (thrift articles) and Mrs M. Ashworth (novelty). Mrs Woodroofe made a further appeal to members to join the E.P.S. for canteen or women's and children s work in an emergency. Volunteers to assist at the patriotic shop when the guild has charge were called for, there being a ready response. It was announced that various donations for raffles have already been made. The meeting decided to send a recommendation to the executive committee that parcels he forwarded to men and women of the Forces overseas each member paying threepence to the fund every meeting day. Circle reports were presented by Mesdames J. Kennedy (gardening), Carruthers (arts and crafts) and K. Manning in the absence of Mrs .bigham (music). Mrs Manning also carried out the secretarial duties m the absence of Mrs W. Dodson. Recitations by Miss P. Wilson and vocal solos by Mrs J. Pritchard and Miss I. Pollard were enjoyed. The accompaniments were played by Mesdames H. Cunningham* and Howley.
