TRENCHES AT SCHOOLS
The work on slit trenches which was started a fortnight ago at the Terrace End School was completed on Saturday. The length of trenches is sufficient to provide adequate shelter tor every child in the school. At the College Street School all the trenches necessary for the infant department were completed on Saturday, while those for the Intermediate School pupils, which are being dug as a separate set arc well on the way to completion. When cameramen of the Government Film Studios North recently to film the emergency education scheme, they took the opportunity to photograph the pupils at the Boys' High School digging slit trenches in the area between Featherston Street and the school baths. The film, which is being shown at the Regent Theatre, has created considerable interest. The rector (Mr J. Murray) said to-da.y that all trenches shown were dug by the boys and they offer sufficient protection for every pupil attending the school.
