TEST FOR TRANSPORT
SECRET ALARM PARADE
.Motorcars, lorries, and buses were brougnt out in an alarm parade lor t"C E.P.a. transport section at o o clock tins morning, which was attended by more than <o per cent, of the personnel, the whole of which brings 300 vehicles into action. Unly the commander (Mr \V. H. Brown) knew beforehand the time ol the alarm, and he expressed satisfaction to-day with the results. Eew mistakes had been made, he said, and these would be attended to immediately. At 4.3 U a.m. the headquarters of the organisation were notified of the parade, and there were included in this call the Mayor (Mr Mansion!, who is chairman of the general committee of the E.P.S.). Messrs C. V. Day (E.P.S. Controller), and D. !•'. Smillie (chairman 'of the transport section). At 5 a.m. company commanders were advised, and in turn the section and sub-section leaders wqiv notified, the alarm finally being passed on to the drivers. 8011-books were called and subsection leaders checked off the rations and water carried in the vehicles. Jll some cases torch signal instruction was. carried out until the various units moved off to Rangitikci Street for a battalion dismissal. Here the Mayor addressed the members, expressing his appreciation of the work being put into the organisation and of that done this morning. One of the features of the call-out was the goodwill of a number of people who. by prior arrangement lor such test calls and for any emergency, have permitted their private telephones to be used.
