FIERCER STILL
RUSSIAN BATTLES AIR WAR INTENSIFIED. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, March 26. No material changes took place on the Russian fronts, either yesterday or last night, according to the latest Moscow communique. The intensity of the air battles is, however, sustained.
.It is officially stated that 37 German planes (not 31 a.s previously announced) were destroyed on March 23. Twentyseven were destroyed on the following day, as against nine Russian machines. —Official Wireless. Reports from London state that the fighting in Russia is growing in intensity as the Germans throw in fresh reserves of men, tanks, and artillery. A Soviet break-through is threatened in an important German sector in the Donctz region.
In the Leningrad and Lake Ilmen region the Soviet claims further successes.
The Red Fleet's northern air arm destroyed over 100 enemy planes, mainly in defence of Murmansk, the Arctic port, where German raids have been intensified lately and four or five squadrons of Hurricanes have been put in to aid Russian planes against the Germans.
