NATIONAL CLUB.

The third annua) meeting of the Palmerston North Club was held on Monday, Mr F. L. Cubitt presiding. The balance-sheet showed that the club was well on the right side financially. Congratulations were offered to the committee by Mr L. Piimmer, who said that the club had carried out well the job lor which it was formed. Mr H. L. Hnrtog and Mr H. A. Seifert endorsed Mr Plimmc.r’s remarks. Other speakers included Mr H. G. Mills (president of the party’s branch in Palmerston North) who tendered his thanks to Mrs C Hayward (the hostess) and Mrs J. H. Whyte (convener of the

Fighting Forces committee). Mrs W. F. Field (president of the women’s committee) said how much the women appreciated a home for sewing, bridge and war work. She announced that her committee had voted £ls to the club’s funds. Mrs Hayward presented the house committee’s report and Mrs Whyte the Forces committee’s. Mr Siefert referred to the success of the dances for the Services Held weekly

in tiic club’s rooms. 'The election of officers resulted: —President. Mr L. Cubitt; vice-president, Mr C. Driver; committee, Mesdames G. Hayward, H. G. Mills. C» Driver. D. Black and W. Briden-Joncs, and, in addition to the president and the ;• vice-president, Messrs Seifert, J. G. Grinisbaw, Hartog and L. Piimmer; auditor, Mr E- B. Jennings. The lighting services committee was re-elected with power to co-opt members, its was the social committee. The chairman explained that through the offices of Mr D. Black the club had obtained the photographs of the late Colonel J. M. Allen, D. 5.0., and Major A, N. Grig" to hang in its rooms. In presenting the photograph of Colonel Allen, Mr Black said that Major Grigg’s photograph would lie arriving shortly.

The committee entertained members to Slipper and Mr Hartog moved a vote oi thanks tor its hospitality.
