TWO GREAT BATTLES
MOJAISK AND KHARKOV. RUSSIAN STRUGGLE.LONDON, Jan. 19. Two decisive battles are raging on tbe Eastern Front, one being for Mojaisk, 65 miles west of Moscow, and the other for Kharkov, the industrial capital of the Ukraine. At Mojaisk, Hitler’s last stronghold in front of Moscow, General Zhukov is fighting the Germans in the streets and there are unofficial reports that the enemy arc already evacuating the town.
In the battle for Kharkov Berlin admitted to-night that all along the JDonctz front Alarshal Timoshenko’s lorccs arc attacking in force'. German reinlorcemcnts rushed from as far away as France have failed to stop the onslaught. A striking admission was made in an inspired “backs to the wall” article in the German Press to-day which declared: “The enemy must bo stopped, no matter when, where, or how”.
