J Air Force Medal: SERGEANT MAURICE KIDSON, Air Observer, R.N.Z.A.F. Distinguished Service Cross: LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER F, G. TIDSWELL, 1i.N.V.11.' (N.Z.). LIEUTENANT C. G. I'ALMER, R.N. V.R. (N.Z.). BRIGADIER WEIR. Brigadier N. W. M. Weir, C.8.E., N.Z.S.C-, is officer commanding the Central Military District. The area he commands includes the Manawatu. He went to Duntroon Military College, Australia, in 1911, being one of the first group of 10 New Zealand cadets to enter the college w.hen it was opened. In 191-4, ho was appointed to the New iZeal-ind Staff Corps,- and served on Gallipoli. where he was wounded. He returned to New Zealand and was engaged on staff duties for the rest of the war period. After several appointments he was selected to command the New Zealand Coronation Contingent and when in Great Britain, attended the Senior Officers' School at Shecrness and a number of other courses. On his return he yas appointed General Staff Officer, First Grade. 'Northern Military District, then promoted to colonel'and the command of the Northern District. More than a year ago, he was appointed officer commanding the Central Military District with the rank of brigadier. SURGN.-COM. H. K. CORKILL Surgeon-Commander H. K. Corkill. 0.8. E., is the third son of the late Mr T. E. Corkil, formerly assistant-gen-eral manager of the Bank of New Zealand. Educated at Weilington College. he went to England, and served as a gunnorv officer with the R.E.A. in the Imperial Forces in the last war. being wounded. Subsequently he completed' his medical course at Edinburgh. He always took a close interest in the R N\ 7 .R.. and went to Aden in the IDiomcde in 1935. later going on to England lor post-graduate study. He was 1 called up at the beginning of the war serving as surgeon-commander in I the' Lcander till April of last year, when he was appointed Director ot the i Naval Medical Service at Auckland. MAJOR-GENERAL FREYBERG KNIGHTHOOD CONFERRED. LONDON Jan. 1. His Majesty, in his New Year honours list, has appointed Major-General B. C. Freyberg. commanding the 2nd N.Z.H.F., a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. The following message was sent last night by the Prime Minister to AlajorGencral' Freyberg :—"Heartiest congratulations from members of tins Government and mvself on your well merited knighthood which will. I know, afford the greatest pleasure and satisfaction to the officers and men under your command and also to the people of this Dominion. Kindest regards. '
