Many people in Feilding and district will join with Mr and Mrs A. E. Carter, of Monmouth Street, in gratification at the news that thcii son, H) - ing-Officer Reginald Carter, has been piomoted to the rank ot 1 light-lieuten-ant in the R.A.F. as from Juno 23, 1941. Flight-Lieutenant Carter has been engaged in experimental work in aircraft production in England^ In a letter to his friends FlightLieutenant Carter says that some of the flight tests carried out by him were witnessed by representatives of the Air Ministry, Ministry of Aircraft Production and the War Office. In the two years he has bceu in England he has made remarkable progress. “1 still intend to come back home as soon as it is all over,” he says. “New Zealanders, 1 think, do not realise that they have the finest country in the world. The population over here is so vast that it is just one continual struggle for existence, in business and jobs of all kinds, against so much opposition. A job is never considered safe.’’ He adds that he met Messrs Arthur Street, Frecklington, David Graham and others from the Feilding district, in London. In another part of his letter the writer, dealing with R.A.F. raids, adds: “1 am sure there is much grief and woe on the Continent just now, and I certainly would not like to he an inhabitant of Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin and many other places over there.”
