GENERAL HUNTZIGER
KILLED. IN PLANE CRASH
FATAL END TO TOUR
(Bee. 1.45 p.m.) General Huntziger, the Vichy representative who signed the- armistice with Germany, has been killed in an aeroplane crash near Nimes, northwest of .Marseilles.
General Huntziger was accompanied by seven other Vichy officials. They were flying to France from Algiers and crashed fifty miles from Nimes. All the occupants were burned to death. 'The plane lost its way in a thick fog The last message from it was received shortly before one p.m. The wreck was found after dark.
General Huntziger was returning from a fO,OOO mile tour of' inspection of French possessions in North Africa and was due to report to Marshal Retain to-day. He was accompanied by M. Jean la Busquiere and Captain de Royere, who were respectively his chief secretary and orderly officer, also his valet and military writers of Vichy newspapers.
