LITTLE THEATRE PLAYS

Further particulars of the accident in which Alfred Stewart, painter, believed to be of Wellington, lost bis life at Kelvin Grove this morning (as reported on page 7) show that, with Percival Crawford, of AVellingtoji, another painter, lie was ascending some scaffolding when a mishap occurred and they fell to the ground. The two men were on their way up the side qi a tank at the Atlantic Union Oil Company's depot in Boundary Road, being engageo* in painting the structure. Air Crawford was only slightly injured.

A splendid performance was given last evening by the Palmerston North Little 'Theatre Society, when a programme of one-act plays was presented. All were very capably produced and the performers played their parts well, the conception of the author in each ease being closely portrayed. The first play, staged under (be direction of Airs Howley. had an. all-women cast, Alesdame-s E. Lovell, J. Davidson, AVnlker, Aliases L. AVimsett, L. -Montgomery, and J. Clarke. The setting was a dressing room of a theatre. Airs Lovell carried the burden of the dialogue, very capably interpreting changing emotions attaching to confidence suddenly shattered. The second play bad a cast of two only, and the task set Air J. Lorrigan and Aliss Betty AValkcr was a heavy one. Nevertheless, they won well-deserved praise. Clever lighting was a, feature of tlie presentation, which was produced by Ali-s P. Harman. The third play was a comedy, in the hands of Airs Af. Wilson, and her east comprised Airs At. Turnbull, Airs K. Whitebead. Alisses AleDonnkl, X. Benge, P. Wilson, and Alessrs S. BradJield. E. 1). Bennett, and A. Ferguson. This play was also cleverly done, enabling the audience to enjoy the humour ol tiie situation fully. These three plays are to be repeated to-night in the Little Theatre with the addition of n one-act comedy by the Feilding Community Centre Players under the direction ol Air and Airs IT. C. D. Somerset, whose reputation for good dramatic work is well known. This makes the society's final performances for this year and all who enjoy good drama should make a point of attending.
