CITY SILVER BAND.
At the monthly meeting of the City Band committee, Mr E. \V. Low presiding, Mr B. Abraham reported that he had received permission to conduct a raffle in aid of band funds. Arrangements were made accordingly and Mr Abraham was authorised to proceed further. The question of lights tor route marches which are held in the evening was discussed at some length and a suggestion was put forward that the band should procure three benzine lamps, but when the price was quoted at £3 each it was felt that the band could not bear the expense. Mr I hornson, conductor, reporting on the progress of the band, said that he had conducted 21 practices during the month. The attendance on every occasion had been excellent and the progress made very satisfactory. The band attended a church parade with the Home Guard, and although the day was very wet there was a band of 25 membeis. A route march which had been arranged with the AVomen’s Auxiliary for the evening of September 25 had to be cancelled as the band was unable to procure batteries for its torches. On Sunday, October 5, the band resumed its Sunday programmes in accordance with the City Council ioster. The playing on tins occasion was good and augured well for the coming season.
