Among the questions on which an amicable agreement was reached was the "reinstatement of two waterside workers who were dismissed last January for reiusing to handle produce during the cool store dispute at King's wharf and the reintroduction of the contract system of handling cargo. Mr Webb said it had been decided again to adopt the contract system as tar as possible in working all ships and the union delegates wounl get the endorsement of the conference findings when the workers .held their usual monthly slopwork meeting. The commencing date would be arranged by the commission and the union. "It was generally agreed that the present method of handling cargo on some of the wharves could be much improved," Mr Webb added. "The whole question of quicker and cheaper handling of cargo is under consideration. If the commission and the men approach the Auckland Harbour Board with practical proposals consideration will be given to them."
