WELL-KNOWN GOLFER.

DEATH OF MR J. R. GALLOWAY. It was with much regret that golfers in Palmerston North learned this morning of the death of the well-known Manawatu Club professional, Mr J. R. Galloway. He had been absent from this centre for about a fortnight and it was while lie was visiting his son. Mr T. S. Galloway, the professional of the Arikikapakapa Club, Rotorua, that lie became ill and his death occurred. During the long period, about 20 years, that he had been associated with tlie Manawatu Club, Mr Galloway had become a very popular figure on the links and all those who came in contact with him always received a cheery word. He had a host of’friends. Out of respect for him the Hokowhitu links were closed for play this afternoon. The late Mr Galloway, who came to New Zealand from the Loch Leven Club. Fifeshire. Scotland, was a very able player and coach and there are many players who benefited by his experience.
