COMPULSORY PARADES.

REGULATION OF TERRITORIALS. (Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. Existing regulations are clarified and consolidated in the Defence Emergency Regulations, 1941, which have been issued with the Gazette.

The main purposes of the proposed amendments are to provide tor the enforcement of provisions under which Territorials and other members of the defence forces, including units of the National Military Reserve, can he called out for military service in the defence of New Zealand, and also to impose and enforce on Territorials and other members of the defence forces, including units of tlie Military Reserve, a further obligation to undergo such training as may be prescribed in armyorders.

The regulations make it an offence to fail to render military service or undergo the training required under draft regulations. Persons who commit such offences are liable to imprisonment for three months or to a fine not exceeding £25 and, if the offence continues, to a further fine of £5 a day.

INVESTIGATION OF COMPLAINTS. (Press Assn.) AUCKLAND. July 31. An undertaking to give immediate consideration to several matters which are causing grave concern to serving members of the Territorial Force was given by the .Minister of Defence (Mr Jones). The chief subjects brought to the attention of the Minister affect the present strength of many of the Territorial units, the rate of recruiting, the amount of training and the number of absentees at out-of-camp parades.
