DESTROYER’S ACTION.
(12.35 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 29. The Senate Naval Affairs Committee has published Colonel Knox’s secret testimony at the enquiry into allegation that the United States Navy had been in action with the Germans. The report confirmed his statement that the United States had not co-oper-ated with the British Navy or armed I forces beyond the terms of the Lend or Lease Act and also confirmed that I the captain of tho United States destroyer, while off the coast of Greenland rescuing (50 survivors of a torpedoed steamer,’ thought he heard a submerged submarine. He immediately dropped thr/re depth charges. " The committee said that in doing this the captain very prudently exercised the right of self-preservation, otherwise the destroyer might have been sunk, it expressed the opinion that a further investigation need not bo undertaken.
