FUTURE OF LEBANON.

INDEPENDENCE ASSURED. LONDON, July 29. Damascus was beflagged to-day as Free French forces paraded before Generals de Gaulle, Catroux. and Lo Gentilhomme and Colonel Collet. Members of the Syrian Cabinet ahd other notables, as well as General de Gaulle, delivered speeches. In a speech at Beirut yesterday General de Gaulle said that the independence of Lebanon would be a just and practical outcome of the recent struggle in Syria. “Our presence among you,” he declared, “means that France will continue to co-operate with you to defend your liberties against those who threaten them. If for strategic "reasons, our brave Allies, the British have come hero with us, it is to help you to defend those liberties.” Beirut reports that a large part of the Vichy garrison in Syria is . going, not to France, but to Morocco and some possibly to Dakar. At Rabat, the Moroccan commander, General Nogues, said in a spem-h; “We are prepared to ensure the future of Morocco even at the price of extreme sacrifices"
