SUPPORT FOR MEAT BOARD. 'Uio general committee of tho Feilding A. and I'. Association met last evening, Air Bruce McLeod presiding. Alotioiis oi sympathy with Mr L. J. \v ild and Mrs it. it. bporie in their bereavements were I carried. 1110 chairman extended a welcome to new members ol the committee, and also to Messrs W. J. Croucher and N. !■’. Noilscn. Advice was received of tlio appointment by the Young Farmers’ Club ol Alessrs FI. P. Neilson, It. O. Glovn and J. D. L'olqiilioun as honorary members of the committee, and theso gentlemen were welcomed by Mr McLeod. The Western Council of the Royal Agricultural SocTeiy wrote approving of February 3 and 4 as dates for the next Feilding Show. Donations of medals and cups were received from the New Zealand Southdown Sheep Society and the Clydesdale Horse Society. The chairman referred to the illness of Mrs If. J. Lancaster, of Glen Oroua, and a motion expressing the committee's sym--1 pathy and good wishes was passed. A similar resolution was passed in respect of Mr J. G. Jarrclt. It was decided that in-ter-house marching teams be invited to attend the evening session of the next show as a special attraction. Mr 11. D. Brewster reported that ho would bo relinquishing the jiosition of farm manager owing to his having to enter military camp, ile agreed to carry on until the next meeting of tlio committee. Mr Brewster also reported that a sheep loading race had been removed from the pavilion and steps are to be taken to recover it. It uas resolved that a donation of £25 be made forthwith to the patriotic; appeal; consideration of the question whether the next show should ho held for a similar purpose was held over till the next meeting; several speakers wero of the opinion that such a course should be taken. Mr T. L. Sodden (Mayor) thanked the committee for the donation and stated that be too hoped that the next show would he held for patriotic purposes, lie was confident that such action on the part of the association would have the backing of the community. Air McLeod pointed out that in 1916 a patriotic show was hold and was well supported. He would like to see the association move to that end. It was decided to make tlio usual donation to the Boys' and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs, the chairman and Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick stressing the vuhiablo work done by that organisation. Gn the quest,on of whether the Western and Fastcrn District Councils should amalgamate, if was the opinion of the meeting that a combined meeting of the two councils should be held and that representation of the various A. and I’, associations should be invited. The committee granted the Young Farmers’ Club permission to. use the association's grounds for a show in November and agreed to give every assistance by way of advice and facilities. Members agreed that the Young Farmers’ Club should receive the association’s full support. Air McLeod said he would like to sco the club run tlio show on its own, but the date it had decided on might involve difficulties and it would have to bo ascertained whether the Manawatu association intended to hold a show on November 5. It might bo that the Feilding Showgrounds would be required by the Manawatu association should the latter’s grounds not be available. It was decided to invest £2OO in national savings bonds and a resolution that the sum of £3OO be placed with a building society was rescinded. On the question of the mt-ai industry and the disposal of surplus supplies, the meeting decided to support the views of tho izuukus liuy A. and t, Associatior as expressed m a resolution passed at one of its meetings. Air if. A. bto wart, however, felt that tne Meat Board had itsclt to manic as it hud not made the contact it mould have done with the farmers. It ,iud, ho stated, not so tar minuted any scheme for the disposal tne surplus meat. Mr McLeod said tile tanners should get behind the Aical Board and avoid any, possibility o£ a split. Tho board hud given great service to tne industry.
