STANDARDISATION.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A few years ago some amusement was caused by a cabled report tout Hitler had ordered all German firms manufacturing shirts to shorten the end by. two incites, thereby saving material, it is not so funny when we have an identical idea carried out in this country. A few months ago l bought a couple of new singlets,' and although the quality and price were satisfactory the quantity at the lower end is minus four inches, and is very noticeable this cold weather. I am informed that a similar article of feminine wear is the only one that has not been abbreviated and the suggestion is that a few inches could be left off this garment in the making, and an equal amount added to that of male attire, and I am sure the menfolk would appreciate this very much This is a question that should b 3. taken up by the Chamber of Commerce with the Standards Committee, and would have the support of all men whatever their political views may be. Action along these lines would be more profitable than sectional differences over the merits ,or otherwise of a longer working week. —1 am, etc.. ii.S.li.
