TREMENDOUS EARTHQUAKE.
LONDON. June 27. An earthquake described as tremendous was recorded in London at 2 p.m. yesterday. The tremors lasted for nearly four hours. The epicentre was estimated to he 5600 miles away. The West Bromich seismologist said the earthquake was tlie biggest he had recorded since that in China in 1920. The German News Agency says there was an earthquake in iUasturn Morocco yesterday. There was considerable damage, but few casualties. • A Sydney message says: A tremendous earthquake occurred 4830 miles from Sydney, in the Bay of Bengal, at 10 p.m. yesterday, Sydney time. Making this announcement. Father O’Connell (Director of the Riycrview Observatory) said the vibrations were so severe they travelled twice round the earth. Jt was no doubt one of the greatest quakes were recorded. The recordings went on for five hours after thq initial shock.
