Presiding over the Court of Common Council, tlic Lord Mayor spoke of the rapidity with which the temporary roof of the Guildhall had l>eeii completed. He recalled that alter the Great Fire of 1660 the hall had not been used for tliree years, and said the quickness with which the work had been done now was a token to fho world that' London was carrying on. The Guildhall was used as customarily- for the election of the sheriffs on Midsummer Day.—Official Wireless.
