She again attempted to lead all the way, but Karere-Nui, who got on terms with her at the last fence, finished on the better and beat her by two lengths. Manteau, who gave a good display, was 10 lengths further away, followed by Tigrctone. Ruling Star ran off at the logs and was not persevered with. When they returned to the birdcage Tigreterrc and Kaiwaka were very lame. LORD CAVENDISH'S GOOD RUN. Never further back than third. Lord Cavendish stayed on lo win the Empire Handicap by a good length and a-half from Gay Fox, who conceded the leader a failstart into the straight.
