MR MENZIES' WARNING. (Rce. J 2.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 2. The Director-General of Recruiting i has announced that the monthly quota , of minimum reinforcements needed for | the A.1.1'". has been increased lroiu 8000 to 10.000. In Meilxuinie. the Prime Minister; (Mr Meuzics). in speeches at the week-: end. said the war was approaching a climax. Jn the next six months the people oi the British Empire must be| prepared "just to hang on" until the trickle of help from the United States; grew to a stream and ultimately into! a great torrent.
"I have every reason to know we have not yet-reached'the lowest point in our fortunes. We shall need every ounce of courage that God has given us.' : he said.
Mr Men/.ies ' made the following points :
The British Empire's escape from utter defeat in the past 12 months was one of the miracles of history. Our present task was to slow down the progress of the enemy. The main theatre of the land war for months to come would be in the Middle East.
Britain would probably sweep the night raider ofit of the skies by the end of the vear —and would need to.
