Airs J. H. Gilchrist, of Palm Avenue, Palmerston North, lias received a cablegram from her son, Sergt. Darcy Gilchrist, of the 2nd. N.Z.E.F., stating that he is safe and well.

A hunter of game and fish in many parts of the world, Dr R. Jl. Stevenson, of Miami, Florida, a second cousin of Robert Louis Stevenson, has arrived in Auckland from Sydney on a short visit before continuing to Suva.

IJecauso of the d fliculty of sending an examiner from London, Dr W. A. Orchard, who for the past ll years lias been director of the Sydney Conscrvacorium of music, has arrived in New Zealand to begin an examining tour for Trinity College of Music, London.

The welcome official news has been received by Mr and Mrs A. J. Yortt, of Hastings, that their son, LanceBombardier Carl Yortt, who was recently reported missing, is sale and well. Ilis many friends in Palmerston North will be pleased to learn that Lance-Bombardier Yortt, like quite a number of other soldiers, has nowreached safety.

Pilot-Officer S. C. Niven, reported missing on an operational flight, was well-known to the youth of ‘Wellington, as before his enlistment he was boys’ work secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Educated at Brooklyn School. Wellington College, and Fielding Agricultural High School, he was prominent in sport in all three schools, and subsequently in Taranaki, cricket and swimming claimed his attention. He entered Weraroa Training School in November, 1939.
