A guaranteed wage for coalminers, subject to the workers' willingness to penorm any services that are reasonably required ot them, is one provi- , siun ol the Essential Work (Coalmining Industry; Order, 1941, which mainly follows the same lines as the Essential Work (General Provisions) Order. The order, which has been made by tin Minister ot Labour and National Service, is designed to maintain and make the most effective use of the labour force of Ihe coal-mining industry and ensure for the men sta-I bilit.v of employment on satisfactory conditions. . It includes restrictions on the right I of employers to discharge work people i and ol work people to leave their cm- I ploynieut. An important leature, how-: ever, is that permission to leave cm-; ploynieut will always be granted tot enable the worker to take up employ-j rnent In another colliery. I*or timeworkers the guaranteed wage will be j an appropriate time rate lot normal j working hours, and for piece-workers it is their piece-work earnings and payment at an appropriate time rate | for all shifts or parts of shifts noi.mall.v worked by them lor which work, is not available, periods of less than i one hour in any shift being dtsrc-j j ga.rdeU. | j
