AERODROMES POUNDED.
ENEMY PLANE LOSSES. (British Othciai Wireless.) (11 ec. 1.15 p.m.) . iiUGBY, May IS. Aerodromes i.u Greece occupied by I the Germans were heavily attacked ; during the night of May 10-17. I Our bombers caused a number of j tires at Angos, and also Mendi, where j a violent explosion occurred at the ! north end ol the aerodrome. Four aircraft on the ground were destroyed at Malaoi, where direct hits were obtained on the runway and hangars and incendiary bombs fell among dispersed aircraft, causing considerable damage. These bombing attacks were followed at dawn by attacks by our fighters,! which machine-gunned the aerodromes < at Hassani, Angos, and Malaoi. At! Hassani 20 Junkers 52's were hit and 1 a number of Messerschmitt 109's were also attacked. At Angos similar at- : tacks were.carried out against enemy aircraft on the aerodrome : two of [ them were set on iire and others were i damaged. 1 Enemy planes at Malaoi made excellent targets for our aircraft and many ; hits were observed.
When enemy aircraft attempted a maehine-gnn attack on one of our j aerodromes in Crete our fighters interJ cepted them and destroyed three Alesiserschmitt 109's and damaged others. Anti-aircraft fire- shot down four enemy aircraft and also damaged [others. One of our aircraft returning from a reconnaissance flight joined in 'the fight and accounted for one Junkers ol and severely damaged another.
