Regent Theatre.—Mirth and melody reign at the Regent. Theatre when Mickey Roonov, Judy Garland and a group of clever youngster.-, many of them seen with the youthful stars in “Babes in Arms,” are regaling audiences with harmonies and comicalities. Mickey and Judy organise a high school band in the story and that’s when tilings begin to happen. Paul Whiteman has announced a radio contest for high school hands. They set out to raise hinds for the trip to Chicago. They stage a travesty of old-time melodrama, with the ■ hit Ui saw, heroine lied to the railway tracks, and such ancient ditties as “Heaven Will Protect a Working Girl.” When Paul Whiteman appears in their town they borrow liics_ orchestra's instruments during an intermieison and give him an audition lie never expected. Paul Whiteman not only conducts an orchestra hut proves himself u very capable actor in his scenes with the youngsters. State Theatre.—Racetrack thrills and the stirring drama of courageous jockeys who ride to win in the grand sport -ofkings are excitingly depicted in "Hide, Kelly, Hide,” a fast-moving racing romance. Eugene Pallett, Marvin Stephens, Rita Quigley and Mary Healy head the featured cast of this new 20th Ccnturyl‘ox film. “Ride, Kelly. Ride” is based on a _ novel by the famed author Peter B. Kyno and i; packed with realistic, behind-the-scenes action. Told from the jockey's viewpoint, it's a fresh approach to racetrack films. Young Marvin Stephens, a world-hc bronco buster, is spotted by a wealthy racehorse owner who admires the hoy’s courage and horsemanship. Given a place with the stable, Stephens is put under the guidance of a veteran trainer, played hv portly Eugene Pallettc. Shown in a series of interesting episodes i- ihc boy's development from Taw cowhand to top-flight jockey. Then conics his first big race, followed by thrilling j shots showing him riding at some el America's best-known racetracks.
