ELECTRIC POWER

The monthly meeting of the Manaw.'ituOroua Power Board was held this week, Mr J. Boyce presiding. There wore also present Messrs J. llodgens, M.P., •). A. Nash, M. A. Eliott, W. MvKav, J. 11. Mason, P. G. Guy, \V. P. Bickers, W. G. Shannon, N.- Gampbell, G. G. G. Dormer and L. A. llogg. A motion of sympathy with Mr Campbell in tint death o,f his mother, Mrs J. Gampbell, of l’limmerton. was carried. The managingsecretary (Mr K. \Y. Eglintcn) reported that the April meter readings were higher by £1970 than those in April, 1940. Decreases were shown for milking motors and industrial power, and all other items had increased. The largest increase was £749, for power supplied to the Palmerston North City Council. The chief engineer (Mr \V. A. Waters) reported on alterations which had been curried out at the To Matai sub-station and the erection of strain-towers at various points. The main line from Bunnythorpe to Apiti had been overhauled. Leave of absence, while they are on active service, was granted Messrs J. Barrett and G. Whittaker, of the beard’s staff. On the motion of Mr Guy, it was n commended that the incoming hoard examine the possibility of lowering the minimum charge from 4s 6d to at least 2s 6d. As this was the last meeting of the present hoard, the chairman thanked the members for their cooperation. Mr Eliott replied on behalf of the members and commended Mr Boyce’s chairmanship.
