EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.’ MAY 14, 1911.
A London message stated that the Fa=lival of the Empire, had opened at Crystal Palace. Royalty from European countries were present.
Advice received from Pekin stated that the revolt w'as still in progress. At Kirin over a- hundred thousand had been rendered homeless through their homes being destroyed by fire. A Sydney cablegram stated that the city’s population had 1 increased by nearly 140,000 to 634,350 in ten years.
