AWARDS FOR GALLANTRY
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 13. Six gallant and successful attacks on a large and strongly-escorted enemy convoy last month gains the bar to the D.E.C. for acting-Squadron-Leader L. ! V. E. Atkinson. Despite intense anti- ; aircraft fire from the escorting vessels ! lie delivered an attack on the largest I merchant vessel, scoring two direct hits on the stern. The formation ho j was leading completed the decisive ac- : tion in which three of the four ships ; were set on fire and one left sinking. The bar to the D.F.AJ. goes to Serigeant C. F. Rawnsley, who as wireless operator lias assisted his pilot in the destruction of at least seven enemy j aircraft. The bar to the D.F.C. lias! been awarded to acting-Squadron-Leader AI. H. Brown who destroyed a further two aircraft, bringing his total | victories to at least 18. His splendid leadership and dauntless spirit have boon largely instrumental in maintaining the high standard of efficiency throughout the squadron.
