The United Slates Ambassador, Admiral Leahy, is understood to have requested an appointment with Marshal Retain m connection with a Paris Press .campaign against America, also warning Washington tp keep its hands olf Dakar. Admiral Leahy is expected to ask Marshal Pctain to clarify tlie warning about Dakar, which was issued in Paris hut not published in Unoccupied France.

Dakar is the important French naval station in West Africa where, it will lie recalled, General de Gaulle unsuccessfully attempted to convert the residents to the Free French cause and where, earlier, French naval vessels which had attempted to run for another port were kept in check by a British naval force. It is at present under the control of the 'Vichy Government. hut is greatly coveted by the Nazis.
