HOCKEY There were sonic keenly fought [ games at the Hokowliitu Domain on Saturday when the Manawatu Hockey Association’s championship competition scries began. The grounds were in very fair condition notwithstanding that they had been covered hv flood waters earlier in the week. The outstanding team in the senior grade was High .School which displayed strong combination for so early in the season. The results of the various games were as follow: Senior: High School 4 (Kyle 2. Nicholls 1, Waters l) v.. United 2 (Ncsbit 2) : Phoenix o v. Woodville 0. Junior.—High School A 2 (Persson 2) v. Broadway 0: Phoenix 6 (Frankc o. Richardson 1): v. High School B 1 (Gillaml). The umpires were Messrs L. Afartin, B. Palenski, L. H. Bendle, R. Irwin. W. Sutton, J. Mummery, J. D. McDonald. and W. Waters'. WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT. An eleven-a-side tournament was held by the Manawatu Women's SubAssociation and the winning team was High School Old Girls with Feilding a close second; The games were played at the Hokowliitu Domain and it is probable that all future matches this season will be played there instead of at Takaro. The results of the tourney were as follow:—Feilding 2 (Miss Knight 1, Mrs Lewis 1) v. Broadway 0; High School Old Girls 3 (Miss Banks 2, Miss Spiers 1) v. Broadway 0; High School Old Girls 1 (Mrs Tucker 1) v. United 1 (Miss McQueen I); Feilding 2 (Aliss Knight 1, Miss Simeon 1) v. United 0; High School Old Girls 3 (Aliss Banks) v. Feilding 0. The umpires were Alessrs V. Turner and H. Bvers.
