MAYORAL ELECTION.
(To the Editor.) Sir. —On reading the report of Mr Mausiord's address on Thursday night i was struck by his comparison of himself to a cricketer. Judging by his subsequent remarks I gather tnat he is of the school which believes in body line bowling. A good deal of Mr Manstord’s address was devoted to the consideration of ‘‘forgetfulness.” Now that is a subject which presents some interesting psychological speculation. Ereud propounded the theory that a man only forgets that which he doesn’t wish to remember. The whole ot Palmerston North seems to have suflered quite a wave of forgetfulness during the last few months. When, in September last, the Mayor called a public meeting of the Kairanga County and citizens of Palmerston North only twelve out of tall those thousands of 'people “remembered” to attend at the • Council Chambers. A public meeting !of women was called, but so small a j handful “remembered” to attend that meeting that the committee had to be formed by telephone. Even when Their Excellencies Viscount and Lady Galwav came to farewell the city, theie was an embarassing number of empty chairs where there should have been prominent citizens. I venture to predict that with either Mr Te.nnent or Mr Murphy as Mayor the memories of the citizens of Palmerston North will register a rapid and permanent improvement.—l am, etc., ANN KATHLEEN _J A CQTjES, Palmerston North, 12/5/41.
