GREEKS CONTINUE STRUGGLE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. I p.m.) LONDON, May 5. In announcing General Frcyberg s appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Allied/ Forces in Cretc, ( the order of the day issued by the Greek Premier and War Minister (M. Tsouderos) said: "In order better to conduct the struggle alongside Britain, the Greek Government has decided to place the Allied troops in Crete under a single command to which General Freyberg has been appointed. We appeal to all officers and other ranks to fulfil under his command their duty to their country and to the King with discipline, self-denial and courage. We possess the united support of the courageous Cretan people, for generations the indomitable champions of national liberty. From this war, in which Crete is the last but impregnable rampart of Greece, our country will emerge victorious and great." The Daily Telegraph's Cairo correspondent says that two full divisions of the Greek Army have arrived in Crete and probably a steady trickle of soldiers via the Greek islands will continue for some time.

PROGRESS IN ABYSSINIA. A British Official Wireless message says: In .Abyssinia, in the Dehib sector. Indian troops occupied Emadan and Ulethert on Slay 3. During the course of this action a heavy counterattack by the enemy in greatly superior forces was driven back, leaving one officer and 250 other ranks prisoners in our hands, says a Middle East communique. Yesterday further important positions were occupied and the advance upon Amba-lagi is steadily progressing. A large number of enemy troops have surrendered—the number has not vet been counted. In the southern 'districts further progress is reported by all our columns operating in pursuit of the enemy.
