SIR JAMES PARR
DEATH IN ENGLAND. (Bee. 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 2. The death occurred ol Sir James Parr early this morning at his lionK in Hertfordshire alter a brief illness. Born in Cambridge (New Zealand) in 1669. Sir James Parr was destined to enjov a busy public life. He practised as-a barirster in Coromandel and Auckland from 1890 to 1920 and was Mavor of Auckland from 1911 to J9lo. He'then entered polities, being member for Eden from 1914 to 1926. Minister of Health from 1920 to 1923. Minister of Education from 1920 to 1926. Minister of Justice from 1923 to 1926. and Postmaster-General In 1925 and 1926. He was then appointed High Commissioner in London until 1929 and again from 1934 to 1936. He represented New Zealand at the League ol Nations in 1926. 1927. 1928. 1929. and 1934. Ho was awarded the C.M.G. in 1914 and was knighted in 1924, reviving the G.O.M.G. in 1935. Sir James Parr, who is survived by me son and four daughters, was twice uarried. In 1895 he married Miss Ethel Haszard. who predeceased him. and in 1938 married Mrs Barbara Wlntwortb. x ho survives him.
