SOME LEFT ON BEACH. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 3. Stating that the evacuation from Greece of the British Empire troops had been completed and that 43,000 troops hud been accounted for, Mr P. C. Spender (Minister of the Army) said yesterday that there might be additions to the numbers already evacuated. Basing his statement on a report from General Blarney, who commanded the Anzac Corps in Greece, Mr Spender said the total Imperial Forces —Australian, British, and New Zealand—in Greece before the German attack was about sG,oofi. including 22.000 Australians and a New Zealand division. The extent of the Australian casualtics was not known, but the casualtics among all the troops after the evacuation were estimated at not more than 500. The losses included about 3000, among them only a few Australian!; who, although they reached the beach, could not he taken off. General Blarney's despatch said if was likely that only a very .small mini- i her of Australians were included in i the 3000. Mr Spender described the action j fought by the Australian. British, i and New Zealand troops as unquestionably one of the most magnificent in the history of British arms. General Blarney reported that the Anuses were always superior to the Germans whenever they met conditions at all reasonable. | Ho added that all the nurses from ; Greece had arrived at. Alexandria. CALM OR DERLINESS.
The calm orderliness which marked the evacuation from Greece was again shown upon the troops' arrival at ['Egyptian ports where they leu the transports and moved to trains to take them to an unknown destination as if they were carrying out normal routine operations, says a British Official Wireless report. The men were in fine trim, all ready and eager to meet ''Jerry" again.
The Sunderland flying-boats did wonderful work in evacuating the IJ.A.F. personnel, and as ninny as So men were carried on a single trip.
