PIG BREEDERS

MANAWATU-OROUA BRANCH. A meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua branch of the New Zealand l’ig Breeders’ Association was belli to-day, Mr NY. A. Davison presiding. Also present were Messrs.NV. P. Bickers, 11. E. Fieldhousc, ]!. Bockc-tt, L. R. Rowan, B. Burmoister, II E. Thurston, W. J>. West, C. S. Hunt, W. M. Williams, O. C. EUenn, L. E. Hansen, N Pedersen, NV. C. Scott, V. N. Houghton and G. M. NYhitolock.

A discussion took place on tho allocation of the sales to the different auctioneering firms, but it was decided to make no change. Mr Bickers moved that it lie a recommendation to the Now Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association that the levy on pigs lie not increased an extra penny to threepence, as proposed. Mr Fieldhousc said that if the weight of the pig was decreased to 1001 b, thgn it would lake three pigs to make tho weight of two at tho present time, tie was not ill favour of saddling the farmers with any further exponditurc. The motion was carried. I On Mr Ellerm’s motion, it was decided to ask the New Zealand association to hold its annual meeting in Palmerston North this year. It*was stated that Hamilton interests were endeavouring lo have the meeting held there. It was also decided lo recommend to the association that while members were serving with the overseas forces they bo kept financial. Messrs Whitelock. and the president and secretary were appointed a sub-committee to go into the matter of prizes for the Show. Mr Whitelock said that many expressions luid boon received in regard lo the institution of a classification scheme, and the majority were against the scheme. T lie Waikato clubs, however, were in favour of it. Mr Bickers said the Waikato members were opposed to anything that was suggested from this district. On the motion of Mr Hunt, it was decided to advise the ’council that the branch was not in favour of carrying out the classification scheme during the war period and for six months after.
