JAPANESE REBUFFED

SEIZURE OF STEAMER. (Ree. 8.5 a.m.) SHANGHAI, April 60. The Italian Consul-General said the Y’ugoslav steamer Tomislav was now incorporated in the Italian mercantile marine and had been sold to the LloydTricstino Line. He said the Japanese had nothing to do with the matter. Earlier this week, in Shanghai, the Japanese naval spokesman said the Italian seizure of the Tomislav to prevent the possibility of her falling into the hands of the British was not in conformity with the Japanese intention to prevent the spread of the war to the Orient, for which reason the Japanese had made representations to the Italian naval authorities and expected an carlv reply.
