TAXATION RISES STEEPLY. OTTAWA, April 29. Canadians this year will have to forgo still further of the loss essential civilian requirements in the interests of war production, said the /Minister of Finance (Mr Ilsley). when introducing the Budget in the House of Commons. He said that 2000 million dollars were needed in the current fiscal year. New taxation should produce 300.000 000 'dollars and the loans required would amount to 1000 million. Last year the taxation returns yielded 778.000.000 dollars. Expenditure in the war account was 816 000.000 dollars, and ordinary expenditure 393.000.000. Revenue reached the unprecedented total of 572.000 000 dollars, and the over-all deficit for the year was 395.000.000. Canada’s national debt, at March 31 reached 3666 million dollars.
