The Afinister of Finance announces that Air AA’. F. AA’ard has beet, appointed acting-governor of the Reserve Bank from Alay 1 for three months.

Mr L. 0- TT. Tripp was appointed chairman of the executive of the National War Funds Council at a meeting of the council held this week. The unflagging interest shown !>y Mr Tripp in patriotic bodies and Red Cross work over 27 years was referred to. Rev. T. W. Armour. of Christchurch, and Mr J. B. McKinney, of Auckland, who have been visiting Palmerston North in connection with matters concerning the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, left to-day for the Wairarapa. Mr R. 11.I 1 . Connell, land utilisation officer, Department of Agriculture, and formerly of Palmerston North, has been appointed field superintendent for the department in Christchurch. He will have charge of the Canterbury, West Coast, Marlborough, and Nelson districts, A former resident of Palmerston North, Mr R. P. Connell, has been appointed fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture in Christchurch, his territory embracing the Canterbury, West Coast, Marlborough and Nelson districts. Ho succeeds Mr R. McGillivrav. At the annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the New Zealand Alliance reference was made to the passing of Mrs T. K. Taylor and Sir Charles Luke, both of whom were Dominion vice-presidents of the organisation. and expressions of deepest sympathy with their relatives were carried.

Mr W. G. Whitohousc, who has been a member of the staff of the National Rank of New Zealand in Palmerston North for the past 11 years, was the recipient of a presentation yesterday from his fellow-officers prior to his transfer to * Wellington. Mr J. A. West, manager, who handed over the gift, spoke of the popularity of Mr Whitehousc and wished him well. The opportunity was also taken to make a presentation to Mr P. M. Priest, who lias joined the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy.
