EXTENSION OF WARFARE

OTTAWA. April 2S. The Canadian Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie King)', speaking in the House of Commons, warned Canadians to bo prepared for "an extension of the theatre of war on a vast scale." He predicted that there might he a Nazi drive to the Persian Gulf as the commencement of a huge pincer movement against the whole continent of Asia, accompanied simultaneously by i attacks against Singapore, Gibraltar, I and Suez and an attempt to invade Britain. "Now as never before we must view things in perspective. It. is important to realise that as long as British resistance continues the issue cannot be lost." The Minister of Labour (Mr McLarty) announces that Canada will he combed from coast to coast for competent workers to nian the shipyards for intensified building to assist Britain. The Minister of Defence announces that Canada now lias 70,000 troops overseas. Another 118,000 have enlisted for service overseas. She also has a large home defence militia. Colonel Ralston added that overseas recruiting had been slowed down because of the shortage of transport and shipping.
