ABATTOIRS BUSIER

Increases in the ■ slaughtering of stock at the city abattoirs were outlined by the abattoir manager (Mr A. M. Spilman) in a. report presented to the City Council. In the following figures those for 1941 are given, with tho increases in each division over the previous year in parentheses: Cattle, 6149 (629); calves, 765 (194); sheep, 23.519 (372); lambs, 2343 (145); pigs, 4109 (1475); totals, 36.885 (2815). In the past month tho stock slaughtered wore: 230 cows, 105 heifers, 123 bullocks, 16 calves, 551 ewes, 1416 wethers, 354 lambs and 229 pigs. The stock condemned were: 9 cows, 1 ox, 8 sheep, 1 lamb. 1 pig. The fees collected were £395 7s 3d.
