NOTES. Mr E. J. Hanaray has entered Trcntham camp to commence training tor overseas service. Miss M. Hares 'has commenced duty as exchange assistant at the Post Office. Mr lialpin and Mias 13. iialpin are spending a few days at Waitarere Beach. Mr A. Harris, who has been residing in Hastings, is revisiting Woodville. Mr It. L. l'aterson, a member of the Post Ufiicc stalf, has been appointed telegraphist at Ormondville. Mrs Lowry, of Lower Hutt, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Hanaray. Mr and Mrs J. C. Bolton are spending a holiday at Tauranga.. His friends will regret to learn that Mr L. Harding, of Hopelande, is still suffering from the effects of a road accident in wh'oh his car was recently involved, near Longburn. When a member of the Dannevirke Power Board expressed the opinion that blackouts should have some effect in easing tho power loan, another mtmboi sin* cd that blackouts were a failure. Btill another stated that the reflections from some towns were visible 100 miles away; still another admitted having been lost in the Wellington blackout. The dialogue was crowned when the next entrant declared that when he passed the Ohakea aerodrome one night it was lighted like a city. Tho recent meeting was the most interesung so far this season for members of the Woodville Chess Club, 'iho club had a visitor, Mr N. Bhulgorsky, to whom was allotted as an opponent Mr Morris, one of the leading local players. The game afforded a fine demonstration of play, cs pecially on the part of the visitor, whose skill is amazing. In the members' games Harding beat Hartridge; Sinclair lost U. Worboys; Sch'aw won from the newcomers, H. arid I. McLean, who made a good showing against a versatile opponent. Further appearance by Mr Shulgorski arc certain to give a great stimulus to the pastime in Woodville.
