FIRE BOARD

The annual meeting of the Fcilding Fire Board was heiu yesterday ailernoon, Mr W. E. Cartbew being reelected chairman. Also present were Messrs V. M. Edgar, L. A. Hutton, A. C. McCorkindale, V. E. Smith, O. C. bporie (superintendent) and C. 11. Tate (secretary). Air Carthcw briefly acknowledged the confidence shown in him by Ins re-election. It was decided to sccli a reply from the manufacturers of the instantaneous couplings concerning these, it being stated by Mr Sporle that of 29 new couplings purchased seven had been giving trouble. Referring to supplies of hose, Mr Sporle said that tnc brigade had 2(300it in stock and could get through under normal conditions without lurther purchases. Commenting on the small loss foi the year, the chairman said' that there was no need to emphasise the low figure (£0), which spoke highly of the efficiency of the suporir. tendent and brigade. It was an excellent idea, said Mr Edgar, that 12 men were being trained in fire-fighting work under the E.P.S. Mr Edgar envisaged a great change in fire-lighting methods after the war, stating that he lelt sure that trailer pumps would be in general use. The estimates for J 941 - 42 were approved. __ Mrs C. V*. Jewell has returned to Feilding after a holiday spent in the north.

It is learned that Captain Eliott Major and Mrs Major have been reappointed to the Kcilding Salvation Army Corps. Their iriends will ho pleased to hear that Mrs Major has made a wonderful recovery from her illness, and their return to Keilding will he welcomed hv Salvationists. It is learned that Mr P. B. Desmond, secretary of the Cheltenham Dairy Coy., and a member ol the Keilding Borough Council, is to contest, the Feilding seat on the ManawatuOroua Klectric Power Board in opposition to the present member, Mr I'. G. Guy.

Patrol-Leaden? of the Kowhai Scout, troop took roll-call and prepared for inspection. at the recent meeting:. Marching practice was led by the scoutmaster and scouts later participated in a march round a block. A Court of Honour was held. Later, troop members gathered at the fire station for practice for the fireman's badges.
