TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

At the monthly meeting of tho Palmerston North Townswoinen's Guild Mrs A. E. Mansford presided and Mrs E. W. Drake was tea convener, assisted bv Mesdames I. Williams, M. Wilkinson, L. Wort, Welton, Ward and F. A. Wollerman. New members welcomed were Mesdames H. H. Harris and Patterson. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mrs C. F. Spooner in her illness. Circle reports were presented by Mesdames Pierard (arts and crafts). J. Kennedy (gardening), W. R. Bigham (music), and Tate (civics). The president made an appeal for suggestions for converting old clothes for British refugees, on behalf of the arts and crafts circle, and asked lor support for all the circles, whose -work she commended. The musical programme, arranged by Mrs W. P. Bigham, comprised songs by Mrs H. Drake (accompanied by Mrs Bigham); recitations, Miss M. Cranston; and Mrs H. Greenwood (accompanied by Mrs Bigham). A vote of thanks was conveyed by Mrs Tate. Mrs Mansford introduced the speaker, Rev. H. L Ficbig. who took the place of Rev. W. M. Garner, who was prevented by illness from being present. Air Fiebig spoke on Jenghis Kahn, his conquest of Mongolia and the East and its consequences. He traced through tlresc consequences the spreading of the knowledge of the languages (Hebrew and Greek) of the Old and New Testaments to Martin Luther, and the rise | of social movements.
