CENTRAL BRIGADE

MILITARY MANOEUVRES. For the- large-scale manoeuvres of tlie forces in the Central Military District the advance parties have already arrived in the Palmerston North area and are stationed at the Showgrounds, Awapuni racecourse, Ashliurst racecourse, Hokowhitu rifle range, and the Sportsground in Fitzherbert Avenue. The complete forces will concentrate in these areas on May 1. The units from Wellington will travel by road and the remainder from Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, the Main Trunk and Wairarapa by rail. Infantry, artillery, , engineers, and mounted troops will take part, and over 10.000 will be engaged. I lie manoeuvres will be aimed at meeting an enemy landing. T.te first phase will begin on May 5 when the Central Field Force, under Colonel L. Potter, N.ZaS.C., will move lrom Palmerston North and Foxton to the Masterton and Levin areas, respectively. This will involve the use of a large number of motor-vehicles. After the “enemy”* has been overcome. in the Wairarapa the forces will cross to Hutt Valley by the road across the Rimutakas. In the meantime the mounted troops will have moved down the coast and the final stage of the manoeuvres will be a pincers movement and a mass attack upon file “enemy's” base of operations at Plimmerton and Titalii Bay. After the “invaders” have been dispersed, the troops will bivouacnear the battle area.
