KILLED ON SERVICE

SERGEANT-OBSERVER LATTA. Advice has been received in Palmerston. North that Sergei..it-Observer H. S. Latta, son of Mr and Airs T. Latta, of Otahuhu, Auckland, has been killed while engaged in flying operations. Sergeant Latta was stationed with the R.A.F. in the Middle East, and before he enlisted was in business in Palmerston North, being a partner in the (inn of Messrs Latta and Gooding.

After receiving his preliminary training last year at Weraroa, Levin, Serjeant Latta proceeded to Ohakea. where he completed his instruction before leaving for the Middle East, just before Christmas.

Sergeant Latta received his early education at the Auckland Grammar School which he represented at Rugby football. He also played for the Otahuhu senior team in the Auckland Rugby Union's competitions. On coniing to Palmerston North just over three years aero he became prominent in local sporting activities and was most popular and highly esteemed. He was a valued member of the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis. Club's committee, and also a member of the Manawatu Golf Club and the Palmerston North Squash Rackets Club. Ho ;d=o played a leading nart in the activities of the Junior Chamber of Commcrca.

Before enmbii to this centre Serjeant Latta was engaged in the silk business, heinc in the employ of a large importing eomnanv in Auckland.
