NOTES. At tTic annual meeting of the Anglican Ladie*' .. Guild, in the absence of the president (Mrs R. G. Smith) Mrs B. P. Williams presided. Mesdames Orr and Gardner were welcon/ed as new members. The report and balance-sheet presented by the secretary (Mrs J. T. Home) were considered very satisfactory. 'J he election of officers resulted: President, Mrs Smith; vice-presidents, Mesdames Williams, 11. P. Home and R. P. Johnston; flower secretary, Mrs N. E, Robertson ; guild secretary, Mrs J. T. Home. Stallholders were appointed for the annual bazaar and bulb show. Rev. B. P. Williams thanked members for (he enthusiasm displayed in carrying out the year's work, lie also expressed tho hope that a good contribution of suitable gifts would come to hand for the harvest festival, known as Farmers' Day. It was explained that these gifts are to be forwarded to the Abbotsford Children's Home. FARMERS' UNION'. At the monthly meeting of the Southern Hawkc's Bay Farmers' Lnion executive Mr" J. W. Murray presided in place of Mr J. C. Bolton, who was attending a meeting of the Dominion executive. In regard to the Dominion secretary's invitation for an expression of opinion in the matter of river eiosion, which is now the subject of investigation by a Parliamentary committee, it was decided to recommend that remedial action should be broached from a national standpoint. The Dominion secretary advised that tho membership h&d decreased compared wtih last year's figures, and request cd that a special effort be made to increase the numbers before the end of the financial year. Advice from headquarters was also received to the effect that tho taxation authorities were now allowing for depreciation on threshing plants. Mr E. J. Harding reported on the action taken by tho Woodvillo branch in regard to tho county elections and stated that it was desirable that.farmers should take a keen interest in the local body polls. Messrs Cammock and Gray stated that elections were desirable, but. caro should bo taken to retain good men now serving. Mr Cammock gave a report of a recent meeting of tho transport committee in connection with the impressment of motor vehicles, also the proceedings at the last meeting of the dairy committee. Mr J Livingstone, reporting on tho activities of the Howard Estate, stated that the demand for the services of boys who had completed their training was greater than the supply.
