RIVER BOARD OPERATIONS
Trustee A. E. Mansford was in the chair at a meeting ’ of the Palmerston North River Board to-day. Also present were Trustees -T. T. .1. Heatlcv. W. Anderson, W. R. Ilopcroft and J. Batcliolar. The royalty on molal for maintenance at the Showgrounds military camp was waived on an application by the authorities. The Minister cf Public Works wrote stating that a committee had been set up to report on river protection. The Minister sought information regarding such work from the board. The letter was referred to the engineer. who is to report to the next meeting cf the board on the information sought. The reconciliation statement showed that there was a credit balance, of £1152 after accounts amounting to £255 bad been paid. At the conclusion of the business the chairman expressed thanks for the co-operation received frem the members during the past three years. lie expressed best wishes for their return to the board. Messrs Batchelor and Ilopcroft spoke of the keen interest shown in the board’s work by the chairman. The report of the overseer (Mr A. Lane) stated, inter alia: The construction of the concrete section of No. 1 groyne on Pedersen's foreshore is practically completed. An area of willows is being planted around the base portion of the new groyne. The groyne at Anderson’s bend, which was damaged last month, will be repaired on completion of the present groyne at Pedersen’s foreshore.
