Miss Ilona Parkes, of Wellington, lias been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs S. J. Parkes, of Terrace End. Miss Jean McGill, of Dunedin, is to take up a position as assistant at the Palmerston North Municipal Library this week.. There was much rejoicing at the home of Lady Pomare, Lower Hutt, last week, when a grandson was born. This son and heir of Mr and Mrs Pa Pomare is the only male grandson of the late Hon. Sir Maui Pomare and the last descendant of a line dating back 3000 years. He is a direct descendant of the Pomare dynasty of Tahiti of which the late Queen Maro was the last reigning sovereign. The baby’s mother was formerly Miss Madge Ormond, Wairoa, granddaughter of the late Hon. J. D. Ormond, Wallingford.
Members of the Posemary Club spent an enjoyable evening at Miss Jean Scott’s studio recently when Mrs J. C. Piddle presided over a good attendance, five new members being welcomed. Mrs Piddle introduced the new secretary, Mrs Sycamore. Competitions were won by Mrs Vaughan and Master Nicholson the trophies being donated by Mesdames W. F. Field and Thorburn. Items were given by Mrs Davis, pianoforte solos; Miss Cranston, Peggy Wilson, recitations; Miss M. Penketh, songs; Miss Gloria Young, operatic dance; Misses Nancy Singleton and Zoe Bailey, tap duo. The ballot for a parcel to be sent to a member of the forces overseas resulted in the name of Trooper D. Taylor being drawn as the recipient. Members of the club also enjoyed a picture party on a recent occasion.
